So, I Watched Trainwreck...

Trainwreck - aptly named film because it literally was a train wreck. Quite possibly the worst film I've ever seen - and I've seen Vampires Suck.

Before I start, I have to say this isn't an attack on Amy Schumer. I don't find her comedy all that funny but I find her amusing in interviews. This is purely based on the film I watched.

When I first saw the trailer for Trainwreck I was excited. "This looks hilarious. Finally a rom com that's more comedy than mush. I must see it!" Sadly, it had neither rom nor com. What it has was poor acting, an even worse storyline and distasteful explicit scenes.

For an alleged comedy, Trainwreck was a disgrace. The biggest joke was how they expected people to pay almost £10 to sit through that rubbish. I would pay to NOT have to watch it again.

Comedic elements were few and far between, and mostly came from the supporting character (the best friend whose name I don't remember), who collectively had a mere 15 minutes (approx.) of screen time throughout the whole excruciating 2 hour film.

The main character, creatively named Amy (!), was crude, dull and pathetic., I didn't care what happened to her during any part of the film. If irritatingly vulgar is what the writers were going for, (and I wouldn't be surprised if they were), then Amy Schumer did a great job playing the role. I don't care about the fact that she slept around a lot - I don't believe in slut shaming. Each to their own. It was simply her attitude and general conduct towards other people. She seemed like a complete dick.

The love interest (Bill Hader) was boring. That's all I have to say about that, to be honest. Though his small interactions with LeBron James were occasionally amusing.

The storyline was weak from start to finish. The concept was not too bad: free spirited journalist eventually falls in love with subject of article, (heck, it worked for 27 Dresses!), and yet somehow the writers managed to turn it into a complete, I'm just gonna say it, SHITFEST.

Here's what went down: She's noncommittal, she meets the subject of the article assignment (a doctor), they have sex, she refuses to believe she likes him, then she admits it, they have a relationship, the relationship breaks down because she's such a loose cannon, (to put it nicely), she realises she needs to change, she plans a "grand" gesture, (a dance), wins back the doctor, the end.

You think that was dull to read? It was even more dull to watch, trust me.

The story also briefly touched on MS, with the lead's father having the illness, similar to Amy's real life situation. However, there was no real development or exploration of that. It seemed kind of redundant, perhaps only there to highlight the lead's more caring side.

Overall, the film was boring, incomparably unfunny, cringeworthy, unpleasant and a colossal waste of time.

I was so disappointed because the trailer really did make it seem at least worth one viewing.

Instead of watching this film, here are some better uses of your time:

  • Watch paint dry

  • Count to 7200

  • Watch water freeze

  • Watch an anime show

  • Eat dry cream crackers

  • Exercise

  • File your teeth into vampire fangs

  • Count all the hairs on your head
